12 It is assumed that Elizabeth, Susanna and James Brown are the children of Thomas Brown.

Elizabeth, Susanna and James all appear on the 1850 census in the household of Isaac and Margaret (Brown) Cole. Their surname is listed as "Brown." Susanna married Absalom Leach in 1850 and Margaret's husband Isaac was named on the marriage bond.

Did Thomas Brown pass away prior to 1850 with the result of Margaret serving as guardian of her younger siblings?
Family: Thomas Brown / (F267)

14 It would appear that John W. McWhorter had a 3rd wife. He is mentioned on page 1 of the Interior Journal, dated 24 Jan 1889, and it is stated that he was a widower. It seems that he married a woman named Elizabeth soon after.

John died intestate and an Administrator's Bond dated 28 April 1890 is accompanied by a note that reads as follows (misspellings in original):

"April the 28th 1890

37 Sally Ann may not be the correct name for this person. Sally Ann (I831)

38 Susannah's first name in the Pulaski County death record at first glance appears to read as "Anson". Upon further examination, I believe the first letter was mistakenly written as an "A" but was intended to be spelled as Susan. Rainwater, Susannah (I677)

39 Tart's death record proves that a woman named Sarah was William's wife, and Tart's mother of course. Sarah (I33)

40 The birth date listed on Find A Grave Memorial# 15072400 conflicts with C.T. McWhorter's date of "7-8-1791" he referenced in his Jul 1973 article in "Kentucky Ancestors" magazine. McWhorter, William (I1054)

41 The date of death listed on Find A Grave Memorial# 15072400 conflicts with C.T. McWhorter's date of "7-4-1877" he referenced in his Jul 1973 article in "Kentucky Ancestors" magazine. McWhorter, William (I1054)

42 Thomas is assumed to be the son of Zachariah and Rebecca based on the fact that James Wells was living with him in 1860. James and Thomas are about the same age and since James' wife died in 1857, it is reasonable to conclude that James was living with a relative for support due to the fact that he was blind. Wells, Thomas (I981)

43 Very little is known about Sarah. She was the wife of William Lawrence and according to William's descendants, he married Sarah in Montgomery County, Virginia in 1784. The death record for their son, Tartulas Lawrence, lists his parents as William and Sarah. As far as I have been able to ascertain, this death record is the only place her name is documented. The 1880 Rockcastle County, Kentucky census records Catherine Lawrence Carson, daughter of William and Sarah, as having New York-born parents. This is consistent with what we know of their origins.

Sarah's (aka Sally) maiden name is not known but is frequently said to be "Booth." A woman named Sarah Booth was married to one of William's nephews (who was also named William). The fact that two Williams married two Sarahs has been the cause of several cases of mistaken identity. While it is not impossible that two different women with the name of Sarah Booth married two men named William Lawrence, it does seem improbable.

Some of the facts can be sorted out by understanding that William Lawrence's nephew who was born in about 1815 (the son of William's brother John Lawrence Jr) married Sarah Booth in 1839 in Montgomery County, Virginia. William and Sarah died about a month apart (5 Mar 1865 and 7 Feb 1865, respectively) of typhoid fever in Floyd County, Virginia. By comparison, William (son of Elder John Lawrence and brother of John Lawrence Jr) was 75 years old in 1839 and had been living in Rockcastle County, Kentucky for 27 years. There is a record of a William Lawrence marrying a Sally Shelton on 2 May 1787 in Pittslyvania County, Virginia. This may or may not be the same William who is the son of Elder John Lawrence.

Nothing is known about the date nor place of her death.
Sarah (I33)

44 Was George Dyehouse Lucinda's step father? Her maiden name is listed as "Adams" on her marriage record. Adams, Lucinda (I483)

46 Yes, Welcome was really his name - it's not a typo. It is said that he hated this name and that for most of his life he went only by Giles. At some point he added the middle initial R., which according to his descendants, didn't stand for anything. Rainwater, Welcome Giles (I99)
